What is Reflections?
Started in 1969 by the Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. It is essentially an art contest.
As a local PTA with Active Status, the Phillips Elementary PTA is eligible to sponsor Reflections on our campus.
What can students submit?
Students may create and submit works of art in six categories:
- Dance choreography
- Film production
- Literature
- Musical composition
- Photography
- Visual arts
Students may enter the Reflections program in one or more arts categories with no limit to the amount of entries in a single category.
How is it judged?
The Reflections program recognizes students at the local, council/region, state and national PTA levels. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit.
Submissions are judged in divisions based on grade:
- Primary: Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
- Intermediate: 3rd – 5th Grade
Who can participate?
The Reflections program is open to all Phillips students who have at least one person from their primary household as a current member of the Phillips Elementary PTA.
How does a student submit?
Complete the Reflections Student Entry Form, and turn in the form and Reflections submission to the front office or art room no later than October 29, 2021.
In addition to the rule of creating an original work for this program based on the theme, each entry must conform to the Reflections guidelines developed by the National PTA.
